Mop Monday

I spend my Monday mornings trying to catch up on house work. Generally, we use Sunday afternoons for time with friends and family and once we are home, we drop everything at the dining room table and grab our pajamas. It's a weekly routine that I'm not very fond of when I wake up on Monday...

This particular Monday I woke up to a toddler ripping the decor above her crib down.... Apparently she wasn't into the dream catcher anymore, and the paper flower just had to go. She smiled her mischievous smile, and we began our day.

-Diaper Change - this is a pretty easy one as girlfriend is just waking up, and she uses change time as stretch and chit-chat time.

- Breakfast time - Bryer usually has scrambled eggs, cheese, and a fruit of some kind. (this week it was strawberries 👍) My breakfast is more of a cereal bar and a diet Pepsi kinda situation 🤣

-We switch over/fold laundry in the middle of the living room floor. I am not sure why I haven't learned yet, but this is a task that should take 10 minutes and takes 25-30. Bryer is not good at folding... she's 1.5 years old after all... but she is phenomenal at unfolding anything that I just folded!

- I head to the kitchen to clean up anything leftover from the weekend, and to plan the week's meals. (Monday is also often Grocery shopping day!) During this time, Bryer generally brings every block that we own into the kitchen and leaves them at my feet, and says "here you go" over and over. I say thank you, and she repeats me with a drawn out "thaaaank you".

- Once we pick up our blocks, Bryer reaches for a book - sits on her chair and begins to "read" to herself. I take this time to unload the dishwasher sans toddler help.

- It's eerily quiet. Which in Mom terms is synonymous with "HOUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM"

Y'all, I do not live in a large home. It is the perfect size for the Three Bears and Goldie Locks aka Ivy the wonder dog, but large it is not.

She isn't rearranging my pantry.

She isn't in my living room (okay, it's a toy room with a couch).

She isn't in her nursery. Crap. She is definitely in the bathroom, again.

Is my makeup on the walls?

Has she dumped out the entire container of Q-Tips again?

Digging in the trash, perhaps?

The door slowly opens and to my surprise I find my sweet daughter doing her best to help in my day of cleaning-up. She's mopping my floors with a dish cloth!

With a dish cloth, and toilet water. To which I say, "Oh, thaaaank you."

I was stressed. I had just cleaned the bathroom floors a few days prior...but I looked at the "you're welcome" on her face- and I laughed. I laughed harder than I likely should have. She giggled, threw her hands in the air and we laughed some more. I found in that moment, that this could be one of those stories I remind her of when she's older. I don't want to forget these moments. Sometimes in the mundane of Monday's I forget to to stop and take it in.... The Mom moments. The ones that make us laugh, cry, laugh some more.

Plus, it is really difficult for me to stay be angry at this face 👇🏻

The rest of our day was pretty "normal" . She fought her nap and we shared a peanut butter & jelly for lunch. Dad came home after work, and I was chopped liver. That is until I needed both hands to make dinner, then she needed me to hold her. But, I hope she never stops needing me. I wish I could hold her and make dinner with one hand for the rest of eternity. I wish I could slow down time. I wish she wasn't so obsessed with the toilet water... but someday, I think I'll even miss that too.
